U.S. airlines add $3 one-way carbon emission fee on European airfaresJust Plane News 2012-01-10 16:01:02The New Year kicked off with a new fee for Delta Air Lines and other airline customers traveling on flights between the United States and Europe. The Atlanta-based carrier is now charging a $3 one-way surcharge on tickets purchased in the U.S. for European travel. The fee will help offset the cost of the European Union's new Emissions Trading Scheme, which took effect Jan. 1, a Delta spokesman said recently. According to a Reutersreport, American Airlines, US Airways and United Airlines have also imposed a similar surcharge on airfares between the U.S. and Europe. In Europe, Germany's Lufthansaand Ireland's Ryanair are also adding surcharges or increasing fares to offset the carbon emissions costs. Read More Full Story » |
